REQUEST FOR DISABLED WOMAN, NOW HOMELESS -

We are in the early stages of assisting a disabled woman who became homeless when Lakewood destroyed Tent City.  She was transported to Manahwkin - we are not sure where she stays.  She is disabled because of a stroke(s) and on SSI.  She is a fairly young woman.

She needs a small, inexpensive studio or other tiny place to hang her hat.  To add insult to injury, she was attacked and beat up by a stranger which caused her to be hospitalized.  This was an unprovoked attack.  Prior to disability, this woman was gainfully employed in Berkeley Township.

If anyone knows of a safe place in Ocean County - PLEASE contact suzann@reysofhope.com.  If you can provide the necessities of life please email Fr. John and Pat at holyangels@live.com and we will arrange a pickup.

A Question answered

QUESTION WE WERE ASKED-IS CHRISTMAS THE ONLY TIME YOU ACTAULLY MAKE A REQUEST FOR MONEY???
Reply-We always need money but as a rule we only ask at Christmas because that is when people seem to be more generous. Even though we have set up a paypal account for anyone who would like to help towards our expenses .However over 9 yrs we have asked on 4 different occasions for money. The first time was... to buy a headstone for a mother who had fallen into a severe depression after her baby girl died .Her husband had come to us and asked if we could help him buy a headstone. They had a 12 yr old son and after yrs of trying the wife gave birth to a baby girl.as perfect as she looked she died from complications on the day she was suppose to come home. The wife often went to the grave site and would break down crying saying her baby only had a marker where everyone else had a stone .So we put a request out and some wonderful people heard about it and donated for the headstone .After the stone was placed on the gravesite the mother said she finally felt some kind of closure. She still has periods of being depressed usually around holidays or the month the baby had been born then died. But,was doing a lot better. The second request for money was when a young struggling single moms baby boy died and she used all the money she had saved which was intended for her oil company to fill up her tank for the heat but instead used it for a small burial for her son. We were given her account number and again a generous person donated money to be paid on her account so she could have heat. The last we heard this mom had another baby who was healthy.

The third request for money was when we learned of a family who lost everything in a fire and they had no fire insurance and the father who was the main provider had lost his job. He was spending to much time at the burn center visiting his wife who had been burnt over 75% of her body. And again people sent in money for this family. The fourth request was not that long ago when we needed some money to help pay to get much needed clothes and items shipped to an Indian Reservation .And again that request had been answered.
As of this writing we only have 25.00 dollars in the Holy Angels Account so you can see we often use money out of our own pockets for any expenses. This goes for our volunteers too. It is always a huge blessing when we do receive any money but as a general rule we only ask at Christmas .HOPE THIS ANSWERS THE QUESTION TO YOUR SATISFACTION.

WHY LIBERATE LIBMAN MATTERS - A LETTER REGARDING TENT CITY, LAKEWOOD, NJ

This is what happens to the disenfranchised in Ocean County - a community was demolished and folks belongings were destroyed.  Please stand behind Tent City.org

Dear Friends:
“We don’t want to make it easy for people to be homeless.”
That is the precise reasoning behind Lakewood’s anti-homelessness ordinance – the ordinance that former Tent City resident Alex Libman was protesting when he was arrested.

When Alex Libman was evicted from the now-defunct Tent City a short time ago, he stood his ground, stating that he had the right to remain on so-called public property. He posed no threat to his house-dwelling neighbors; his lifestyle never imposed any burden on taxpayers; he was happy to live in a tent. His only real “crime” was residing in a community where government assistance and Section 8 housing are monopolized by a single, separatist group, leaving veterans, people of color, and others living in poverty literally out in the cold. The otherwise-homeless residents of Tent City had their dwellings bulldozed, their few belongings discarded, their community dispersed and scattered.
In fact, barely two hours after Alex was taken into police custody, Lakewood Township ensured that his tent was demolished and his return to Tent City thereby prevented.
With no shelter in Ocean County and now the homeless being jailed, we cannot idly sit by and allow evil to prevail while good people do nothing.
Therefore, we ask you to please come out on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 in front of Ocean County Courthouse to rally against Ordinance 3-26 and the criminalization of homelessness in Lakewood and beyond.
Many thanks for all your love, prayers, and support - see you all tomorrow!
Blessings,
Lisa F.

Need 1 special back pack

We have a 4 yr old girl who is very apprehensive about going to school in September.Already having alittle bit of trouble sleeping worrying over the new chapter in her life(when I was 4 I didn't even know what to worry about, lol). She loves cats and the mom thought if maybe we could get 1 back pack with cats on it her daughter  would look at going to school as something special and feel less worried.

If it sounds to good to be true it probaly is a lie

A mom,a dad and a little girl were moving from MONROE STREET in MT HOLLY(not the greatest street,)They were so excited to find a house fairly cheap in Pemberton. The dad also would be starting a new job. They had only lived in NJ  for about 1 yr and not familiar with the area. When we met them at Monroe Street and they spoke of their wonderful news of getting another and bigger place.I asked them where are you moving? When the mom told me she was moving to SUNBERRY in Pemberton my heart sank for them.It is an area known for many drugs, gangs and dog fights .I told them between the 2 Monroe Street would be a better place to raise a child. They did not take my advice. They moved to Sunberry. Last I heard after being broken into twice they moved. Many times we have met people who are always moving, being evicted or in foreclosure. The reasons vary.I often wonder if I did the right thing trying to tell them not to move. After all they did not listen to my advice nor had they asked for it.Sometimes perhaps I over step my bounds in trying to help others. But I think to myself if it was me surely I would want someone to tell me.Since they had not lived in the house long I am certain they lost there deposit. It is my hope that if they are still following our page and need anything to please reach out.And we will be more than happy to try to help if we can. Do not be embarrassed or feel awkward. If we could talk with this family we would say you are in our thoughts and our prayers.

Manuel's story

Manuel's story
Fr John met Manuel last year when he was a patient in Kimball Hospital. Manuel was his room mate.Manuel had come to NJ through customs he said"when I arrived in NJ I had been jumped and beaten up in a bar I was drinking in,they did not like me .Although I did not know them."They took his wallet.A friend of his who lived in Lakewood gave him a place to stay and helped him find a job.Because he was a good worker the boss said he would help him get copies of his stolen license etc..Manuel was sick because rain, thunder storms or sunshine he walked far to go to work.He had no transportation. When Fr John learned about him always walking he decided we would put out a request for a man's bike. And if we got one we would give it to Manuel . Manuel gave Fr John his phone number just in case.3 weeks later some wonderful person donated a used mans bike.We called Manuel. He was  so excited. When we delivered the bike to him he met us on a corner lot pass the railroad tracks. He told us he was kicked out of his house because the landlord said to many people lived there. When we asked him where are you going to stay he gave us an address.A month later we stopped at the house he said he was going to be living at.The woman there said"no Spanish people live here but she heard they often sit on her porch when she is at work.So who knows what happened to him.
But wherever he is in Lakewood you can bet he is working.

Homeless Advocate Update - Tent City NJ.org

This was posted on facebook this am - it's a statement about the homeless persecution and jailing of one of their activists for no apparent reason other than being homeless - this is a sin and we see too much of this in out work - too many families, singles, veterans etc now homeless thru no fault of their own - please read and think about how you would feel in their shoes - many times these folks DO have jobs but the pay is so minimal and the cost of living et aal in NJ so expensive - they have no where else to gu BUT to a TentCity.  The situation that has unfolded in Lakewood is criminal, disgraceful, political and inhumane -
