Update from Pat

Yesterday I drove to Tuckerton and gave some food and clothes to a family of 6.  The mother is frail and the only thing that looked like it did not need work was  the handicapped ramp for her disabled husband.  His check is the sole income plus they get food stamps.  They are struggling not due to the economy as much as the husband now being disabled.  There is a 4 month old baby boy who resides in the house.  The woman was so grateful for the help.  This is the family Seegal asked us to help.  We will be going there again.  They will need Summer clothes once the weather breaks..

This is a family who was referred to us by someone who saw a need.  If any of you know of a family who might need some assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.  We will make every effort to help them get what they need.*

*NOTE:  We partner with other groups who also serve families in need and the homeless.  We are all grass roots activists who see the need and do what we can.

A Note from Peaches

I just gave the Burlington County Head Start  ( they have 4 schools for 3-5 year old children) 6 large boxes of toys and a bag of books. The have no budget for toys.  Toys are only received through donations.  They received one box of toys that needed batteries which were supplied; one box of toys that were still in need of batteries but could be used without them; one box of typical boy toys including hot wheels and Hess trucks; one of typical girl toys including a lot of dolls  (though sadly there was not much diversity in the box) *NOTE:  Peaches firmly believes that each child that looks into the face of her doll - should see a doll of her ethnicity.  Also gave an entire box of stuffed animals  (mostly beanie babies) and one box of assorted toy items (Lego's , coloring books, crayons, Frisbees, etc.)  plus a large bag of children's books...**NOTE 2:  Peaches also ensures that our children receive books - not just toys.

Please Help If You Can

I just got this request from Fr. John today-----

We are in need of blankets for a homeless man who lives behind a store.

We also would like to ask for donations of unused, reasonably priced cosmetics - like mascara, eye makeup, blush, foundation and lipstick for women starting over.  Perfume and nice costume jewelry would be an added benefit.  Many of these women have left abusive relationships.  Often these items will help make a woman feel more attractive and good about themselves.

I will post more specifics about these requests as soon as I get the details from Fr. John.  If you can help, please contact us.  Thank you as always for your generosity.

January Thank Yous and Update

These came from Pat and Fr. John.

Tony (of Valenzano Winery) put an article in his newsletter about Haiti.    He seems to always remember Fr. John be it writing an article about Reys of Hope or Holy Angels.  He is truly a God send.  Thank you!!

Jan 29/2010:  Fr. John went to the Kiwanis meeting at The Toms River Yacht Club and he was given a $25.00 check for his orphanage in Haiti.  Also donated was a  van full of childrens clothes for Reys Of Hope.  We are so grateful for their kindness and generosity.

Jan 31/2010:  We donated items for a 7 yr old boy who has Adrenoleukodstrophy(ALD).  This is a genetic disease that affects 1 in 15,000 boys.  It effects the brain function.  By the time a child is diagnosed it is usually too far advanced for treatment.  This young boy is terminally ill and we felt the need to help.  ALD leads to a vegetative state within 6mos-2yrs and then death.  Please pray for this family!
