Thank You......

We would like to thank Melodi from Jackson for her generous donation of brand new childrens games and toys!!  They're going to make lots of children happy this year.  Merry Christmas Melodi and family.  PS - her little boy helped me load the goodies onto my SUV sleigh to deliver to Peaches -

We would like to thank Linda's Hats for Hope for their continuing support.  Their donation of hats, mittens, scarves, and other handmade items help keep folks toasty warm!  Pat always looked forward to your donations - Merry Christmas !!

Donations have been way down this year - in part I think because we lost our Pat - who had been suffering for some length of time.  She was the glue that held us together - she had her hand on the pulse of our group - she knew what was going where and to whom - who was going to deliver and who was going to pick-up.  Merry Christmas in Heaven, Patty!!  We sorely miss you!!

Letter from Peaches

At some point in the last 8 years you either helped or received help from Reys of Hope That is why I am writing to you.

Last Tuesday 11/10/15, my sister Patricia, who was an active part of the Reys of Hope organization, died. She had been very ill during the last 3 years and her death though sad was expected. Her last 2 weeks were spent in Samaritan Hospice Care at Virtua Hospital in Mt Holly, where she received excellent care. Father John and our mother were with her until the end. Reys of Hope, which was such a big part of her life for the last 8 years will continue on and as always we will need donations for that to happen.

But right now I am asking for your assistance with something else that is as important. I want to make sure Father John knows that others are thinking of him. Excluding the time when each of them were in the hospital, he was with my sister during most of the hours that they were awake for almost 9 years. That is a long time to now be spending most of his time alone. At this time he could benefit from simply knowing he is being remembered. With the loss of Patricia, and his inability to drive due to health reasons, there will be hours when he will have nothing but time to think. Some times that is not a positive thing. He also will be turning 84 in a matter of days and within the past few weeks has had to move out of NJ into PA ( to an area no where near where he had been living).

With all of these changes it could become very easy for sadness to take over. He is a wonderful man and I would hate to see that happen to him. His email is not active at this time but if you are willing, a simple you are being thought of card sent thru the mail would be welcome. Please pass this request on to anyone who may have been touched by their kindness. There can never be too much positive energy being sent his way. Thank you~ Peaches Yacono

Our Pat

It is with great sadness that I write this. After a lengthy illness, our Pat passed away this Tuesday at 4PM. She had been in hospice care for several weeks. Father John was with her until the end and she was able to say a few last words to him before dying. She was aware he was there as was her mother.

Pat was the most generous, selfless woman I've known. She thought of others before herself - ALWAYS. When I last visited with her - her main concern was Linda's Hats for Hope - because the folks that rec'd them were so happy to be warm.

Reys of Hope will continue on as she wanted to make sure the important work she was part of will continue. At her request there will be no viewing, there will be a graveside service at Mount Holly Cemetery, 225 Ridgway St., Mount Holly, NJ 08060. I will post details as soon as they are finalized. Everyone is welcome.

For those who would like to send condolences to Father John and her family - please give me a day to get all their contact info as they recently moved.

$100 DOLLARS

THE ONE HUNDRED DOLLAR GIVE AWAY....,
If anyone has ever met Peachess you would know first hand how caring a person she is.Peachess tries to help others when she can.So its really not a shock when she went to Atlantic City and played at the casinos. And came out with a 100 dollars ahead and came up with this idea. The idea was put 10 dollars in 10 envelopes and place them in 10 mailboxes along the way home. And on the envelope wright have a good day here's something to maybe brighten your day.So Peachess did on the way home. The mailboxes were pretty spaced out.I wonder what the folks thought who received an extra 10 dollars?(sometimes the littlest things can bring a smile

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHARON'S STORY

Sharon was an alcoholic who had tried numerous times to stay sober. She also had been a woman that had been abused for yrs at the hands of her husband.Sharon had 1 daughter that was 8 yrs old.Sharon had tolerated her husbands abuse but when he went to start pushing and hitting on her daughter she finally got the strength to leave him.She went into a shelter. When Peachess met Sharon through another woman staying at the same shelter she noticed Sharon was unkept looking and seem...ed somewhat withdrawn.Perhaps because she hadn't had a drink in awhile or maybe just the whole situation of being there not knowing what will happen next.Peachess talked with her and asked her if she would like some items which had been donated.Sharon was very moved to think someone would take an interest in her and her daughter. So Peachess returned a few days later with makeup and clothes. And even a few toys for her daughter and the other children to share.
Peachess has often reached out to women in shelters over the years.Peachess knows many feel worthless and have not done anything for themselves in yrs.Often just putting on makeup can help them start feeling good about themselves again.Being in the shelter women can go to counseling for their problems and AAA meetings. In hopes of giving them the tools they will need to start becoming responsible and productive individuals in society again.
Some even go back to school and get their GED.But the one thing they all seem to have in common is they always have a fear of the abusive boyfriend/husband finding them or hurting them again. Many of the women Peachess has met stay in touch with her and let her know how they are doing.Plus Peachess continues to give their children Christmas gifts if she knows where they are.But without all the generous people donating Peachess would not be able to help.So for all those who have helped over the years we would like you to know you have made a difference and we thank  you!

JEANNIE

Jeannie was a nurse at Cooper Hospital in Camden. She was having a very difficult time in dealing with all the crack babies being born there. She reached out to Fr John to discuss her feelings on the never ending situation at the nursery.Fr John told her perhaps she needed to work in another section of the hospital.Or get another job at another hospital nursery where babies with addiction problems are not as prevalent. It is terrible that women who get pregnant cant refrain from getting high. Many of the babies born at Cooper are put into foster care.
Crack babies are sensitive to light ,sound and touch. They cry a lot and their little bodies tremble as they go through with draw.
We later learned Jennie took some time off from work to reevaluate her options.

MARY ANNE

Mary Anne was a teacher at a pre-k school in mt.laurel.She wanted to know if we had any children's books we could donate since her book drive wasn't as eventful as she had hoped.Lucky for us Melodie from Jackson had given us a box full of books that year. And they were all in excellent condition. When we delivered them Mary Anne was shocked, she never imagined we would have so many.Due to the amount they made one wall a book shelf.Mary Anne was so grateful, and we heard later the children loved them.

A QUESTION ANSWERED

WE WERE ASKED RECENTLY IF WE HAVE EVER HAD ANYONE WHO WASNT HAPPY WITH US TRYING TO HELP THEM.THE ANSWER IS YES.WE HAD 2 WOMEN.THE FIRST ONE LIVED IN MT HOLLY.SHE WAS GETTING HER DAUGHTER FOR SPRING BREAK.IN THE EMAIL SHE SENT US SHE MENTIONED HER DAUGHTERS FAVORITE COLORS WERE PINK AND PURPLE.WE EXPLAINED TO HER WE WEREN'T A STORE OR WAREHOUSE.AND WE CAN ONLY GIVE OUT WHAT WE GET IN DONATIONS.SHE SAID SHE WAS FINE WITH THAT.WHEN WE ARRIVED WITH 1 WEEK SUPPLY OF CLOTHES FOR HER DAUGHTER,SHE COULDNT WAIT TO GO THROUGH THE BAGS.SHE WAS HAPPY WITH THE 2 PINK TOPS AND COULDNT THANK US ENOUGH.BUT BY THE TIME WE ARRIVED HOME SHE EVIDENTLY HAD TIME TO GO THROUGH THE OTHER BAGS AND WAS QUITE UPSET THAT THERE WASNT ANYTHING PURPLE.HER EMAIL WENT SOMETHING LIKE THIS"i told you my daughter liked pink and purple,I am very disappointed that you's did not atleast give her one item that was purple.I will never ask for your help again"WHEN WE OFFERED TO TAKE THE CLOTHES BACK SHE RESPONDED''i will keep them because it better than nothing I guess"(TALK ABOUT GRATITUDE)
THE SECOND WOMAN LIVED IN BARNEGAT.IT WAS 2 DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS.SHE EMAILED US AND SAID SHE HAD JUST MOVED IN WITH HER PARENTS WITH HER SON AND DAUGHTER.AND HER PARENTS WERE ON A SMALL INCOME AND SHE WAS ON DISABILITY.SHE DESPERATELY NEEDED GIFTS FOR HER 2 CHILDREN  AGES 8 AND 10.WE TOLD HER ALTHOUGH IT WAS CLOSE WE WOULD COME UP WITH SOMETHING FOR THE 2 CHILDREN TO HAVE UNDER THE TREE.WE WRAPPED 3 GIFTS PER CHILD AND FR JOHN BOUGHT A BOTTLE OF WINE FOR THE PARENTS.WHEN WE ARRIVED SHE GREETED US AT THE DOOR AND WAS VERY APPRECIATIVE.A FEW DAYS AFTER CHRISTMAS WE WERE TOLD BY SOMEONE THAT THERE WAS A POST ON CRAIGSLIST ABOUT HOW CHEAP THE GIFTS WERE HER CHILDREN GOT FROM US.AND EVEN THOUGH HER CHILDREN WERE HAPPY WITH THE ITEMS SHE WAS DISAPPOINTED.SHE COMPARED THE GIFTS AS TO SOMETHING ONE COULD FIND ON THE TRASH.
(we get beautiful girts from generous people at Christmas, and anyone who knows us would know that the items are brand new and wrapped with love.It was very upsetting to Fr John to think this woman was not only so unappreciative but she resorted to posting her negative thoughts about our small organization.Instead of getting in touch with us directly. These 2 women are on our list of those we no longer would help if they requested. We have been helping people for over 7 yrs and these are the only 2 who we have heard about  being unhappy with our efforts!

Peachess has been busy

LAST MONTH PEACHESS DID 7 FAMILIES.SHE STILL NEEDS CLOTHES FOR SOME TEENS.PEACHESS HAS BEEN HELPING SEVERAL MOMS WHO HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF DOMESTIC ABUSE SITUATIONS.WE HOPE THEY CONTINUE ON A POSITIVE JOURNEY.

TAMMY

Tammy was a teenager who had emailed us.She wanted to know if we ever get curtains ,pictures for the wall and things to make a house a home.Tammy and her siblings had always lived in and out of motels.Although her mom worked a part time job it was never enough to get a place they could call home.Tammys father had skipped out on them yrs before we received the email. But a blessing in disguise happened for this family.Their father had been receiving disability checks in another... state. And when the welfare office found out Tammys mom was given back childs support which enabled them to finally afford rent on an apartment. When we met the family they were all well mannered and more than eager to bring in the items we  had for their new home.Which included dishes, pots, curtains, blankets, linens, old small dresser, silverware and even some clothes to fit the children. This was the first HOME they had ever had.And we often think about the many children who are still living in motels who will never be so lucky.I often wonder if more fathers would pay child support if that would change living situations for many?

Request from Peaches..................

Peaches is in need of teen sized kids clothing - from size 10 on up to 16-18.  She has nothing for kids in this size range.

If you live within 10 miles of Jackson and have a donation of gently used teens clothing - boy or girl - pls email suzann@reysofhope.com or post on our fb page or contact Pat and I will be happy to come and pick up as I meet Peaches every few weeks at a midway point between our homes.

Another Thank You from Peaches....

Peaches asked me to post a huge thank you to Melodi from Jackson for the two HUGE loads of baby items she donated.  Strollers, pack-n-plays, bouncies, toys, clothes - you name it.  All much needed and appreciated.  Much of this stuff has already found its way to a family who needs it.

Jessica

Jessica was a mother who needed help for Christmas.A woman who went to the Methodist Church in town told her if she signed up her children they could receive a few Christmas gifts.Jessica lived about 2 miles from town and 1 x a month a lady friend would take her to the store. But the day she went to sign up at the church her friend was unavailable. So Jessica walked through the snow and the cold. When she arrived at the church she was told her children were to old to get gifts.Their cut off age was 11 yrs old.Needless to say Jessica walked all the way back home heartbroken. And cold due to only wearing a sweater and no gloves. When we heard about Jessica we made the trip to deliver gifts  for the children. And we surprised her with a cloak and gloves .Fr John told  her that her friend had told us about her.Jessica was so thankful she hugged us so tight I thought we were going to pop(lol)The reason she did not have a coat is because it was difficult to find her size. But the cloak fit perfect.Needless to say the children had a nice Holiday thanks to those who donated to us.

SUICIDE ON PINE RIDGERESERVATION

BECAUSE PINE RIDGE IS DEAR TO OUR HEARTS. AND WE OFTEN SEND ITEMS TO PASTOR KAREN ON THE RESERVATION WHO SEES FIRST HAND THE PLIGHT OF THE NATIVE AMERICAN PEOPLE WE THOUGHT WE WOULD SHARE THIS.THIS WAS COPIED OFF OF THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE WHICH WAS JUST PUT UP TODAY.

Following this dark moment in history came generations of oppression: boarding schools, substance abuse, extreme poverty, domestic abuse, the list goes on and on. According to Hutchcraft, a deep darkness still grips Pine Ridge today.
  • Infant mortality is 300 times the national average.
  • Nearly everyone — 97% of the Pine Ridge population — is living below the national poverty line.
  • According to current USDA Rural Development documents, the Lakota have the lowest life expectancy of any group in America.
  • At least 60% of the homes on the Pine Ridge Reservation are infested with Black Mold.

More statistics here.
This is the devastation facing Pine Ridge residents every day. Teen suicide is nothing new here: Pine Ridge’s suicide rate is 150 times the national average, but its frequency has started to grab national attention.
The laments on Facebook would “break your heart,” Hutchcraft says.
“A 13-year-old sixth grader has taken her own life. My heart is breaking already, and the day has just begun.”
“This knife feels so good against my wrist. Ain’t nobody care anyway, my life will be better gone as it is.”
“We just lost another child to suicide. Yahweh, help us!”
The U.S. Public Health Service is sending mental health counselors to talk to Pine Ridge teens.

Hutchraft says the “suicide spike” is a spiritual problem. Many of the young people who’ve attempted suicide — or are close friends of a suicide victim — “have talked about an increase in spirit activity,” he shares.
“They call them the shadow people or the dark people,” Hutchcraft says. “There are spirit beings–demonic beings–that are stalking the reservation and convincing young people that they are worth nothing…and [that have] started this ‘cloud of death’ over the reservation.”
Lyrics of the Getty hymn “O Church Arise” read in part: O Church, arise and put your armor on, Hear the call of Christ our Captain. Our call to war, to love the captive soul, But to rage against the captor. Will you answer the call?

Bringing hope to Pine Ridge

RHM is sending a team of 20 Native young people to Pine Ridge to share the hope of Christ. It’s an unplanned and early start to their annual “Summer of Hope” outreach.

“We really need the prayer of God’s people for this, because this is not just a psychological issue: this is a spiritual battle with spiritual forces. There’s not going to be any way to win this battle on-the-ground, unless it is first won in the heavenlies,” says Hutchcraft.
Please share this story on Facebook or through e-mail with your fellow prayer warriors.
The team heading to Pine Ridge is part of RHM’s On Eagles’ Wings (OEW) ministry: a movement of Native young people that want to bring Hope to their reservations through Jesus Christ.

HAPPY EASTER

Easter[nb 1] (Old English usually Ēastrun, -on, or -an; also Ēastru, -o; and Ēostre),[1] also called Pasch (derived, through Latin: Pascha and Greek Πάσχα Paskha, from Aramaic: פסחא‎, cognate to Hebrew: פֶּסַחPesaḥ)[nb 2][2][3][4][5] or Resurrection Sunday,[6][7] is a festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD.[8][9] It is the culmination of the Passion of Christ, preceded by Lent (or Great Lent), a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance.

April 3rd

FIRST DAY OF PASSOVER BEGAN AT SUNDOWN

BEYOND REASONS

The needs of our brothers and sisters around us are so great.Often we do not know where to start. There is a strong desire,a thirst to quench,to reach out and help others. But then we sit back and list stipulations or reasons why we shouldn't.Something could go wrong or others might think negative about us.We must remember that the Lord has asked us to feed, clothe, and aid the sick, visit the imprisoned,we are not asked to ask.We are asked to serve.
FOR I WAS HUNGRY AND YOU GAVE ME SOMETHING TO EAT.I WAS THIRSTY AND YOU GAVE ME SOMETHING TO DRINK,I WAS A STRANGER AND YOU INVITED ME IN,I NEEDED CLOTHES AND YOU CLOTHED ME,I WAS SICK AND YOU LOOKED AFTER ME,I WAS IN PRISON AND YOU CAME TO VISIT(MATTHEW 25:35-36)

2 deliveries to 1 house

The school supplies we will never forget delivering.
A woman had emailed us 1 year. She had 4 children and desperately needed school supplies. She told us she lived in a big old house at the end of her dead end street in Maple Shade.Sounded easy enough,so we decided on a day to drop off the items. When we arrived at the house no one came out to meet us and we knew we were told the woman would be out on the porch waiting. So Fr John walked up to the door and knocked. When the woman opened the door she looked like she had just woken up.But Fr John thought nothing of it.He proceeded to tell her he had the school supplies for her children. She was amazed and kept telling him what a blessing since she did not know what she was going to do about school. She came over and met me and explained it was like God answering her prayers for her children. We left happy. When we arrived home we had an email from the woman in Maple Shade saying how she waited on her porch for over an hour but we never arrived and hoped we were okay. When I emailed her back I asked for her phone number since I needed to talk to her about this confusing situation. When I received her email I called her immediately.Seems as if she lived in the back of the house .She had never told us to go to the front nor the back door.We just assumed the front door to the house is where she lived. When I explained toher we gave the items to the woman in the front she said "oh she has 4 children too, only all girls"she said"maybe I should go over and ask for the stuff".Fr John and I figured since it was our mistake we would return with school supplies for this woman and her children. The only difference was we bought the stuff it wasn't donated. We have learned from this experience to always ask if any other family lives in the house.lol

A SUITCASE FOR THE HOMELESS

Donate a suitcase to Peachess

Peachess on occasion gets suitcases with handles donated.Peachess saves them for when she sees a homeless person. They appreciate getting these because they can put their belongings in them and take them where ever they go.One homeless man Peachess gave a suitcase to said the Philadelphia police had confiscated all his belongings and he was starting over.He was a Vietnam vet.He told her he could always hide the suitcase and no one would ever get his things again if need be.Since he was starting over Peachess gave him a blanket and a few dollars to buy something to eat.Peachess goes to the city a lot and has seen several homeless people huddled around a barrel with fire in it.No doubt trying to keep warm in freezing temperatures.

2 CHOICES IN LIFE

You can walk in the light and do good with love in your heart or?
You can walk in the dark and do bad with hate in your heart. Its either the DEVILS way or GODS way. However, those in the dark can choose to go into the light and make a positive change in their lives at any time

REQUEST TO HELP PASTOR STEVE FOR OCEAN CO HOMELESS

Minister Steve is being swamped with phone calls from so many people that are loosing their one year housing with no job opportunities available to continue to ...pay the rent. In addition, there are new people calling him as well, soon to be homeless, that just can't keep up with the high cost of housing. There's more.... Minister Steve is also having a hard time keeping up with the demand for tents, and camping gear that are desperately needed at this time.
If you have any tents or camping gear that you would like to donate, please call Minister Steve at 732-364-0340.

Fr John wearing 1 of the handmade hats, lol

Linda

Linda is showing you the bag of Easter baskets that were delivered to Dorothy.Linda always has a smile. Her and her group make handmade hats and scarves and donate to us every year.In fact she met up with Fr John and Debbie at the Walmart parking lot in Hammonton to deliver some.

Easter Baskets & candy drop off

We were so lucky we received a lot of candy and new baskets for Easter so we were able to drop them off today to our volunteer Dorothy.Volunteer Debbie and Fr John met her at the Walmart parking lot in Hammonton. And Dorothys sister in law Alice volunteered to make the baskets up.
Linda from Linda's Hope Inititive met up with them and gave a box full of new handmade hats and scarves.

PEACHESS DELIVERS

When Peachess heard there was a young teenage mom due any day (who had been staying at her grandmothers)with very little for the baby .Peachess wasted no time in getting baby clothes together along with desitin, lotion, diapers and baby blankets. When Peachess delivered the items she was met at the door by the grandmother. And she was so excited to think someone would not only donate items for her granddaughter but that Peachess actually delivered them. The granddaughter was  still sleeping but, when she wakes up won't she be surprised.Often we hear about others in need through their friends or aquaintances. Not everybody we have helped has asked directly for assistance.Such was the case of this young teenage mom.

Mary and Billy

Mary had emailed us one year. Her and her son Billy had just recently moved into Richards Trailor Park in Pemberton.Billy had a speech problem and the children on the bus would taunt him because of it.So Mary drove him to school and picked him up everyday. So a lot of her money went for gas.Mary knew she would have difficulty in buying some Christmas presents for Billy. When Mary emailed us she asked if we could give him items that he could play by himself since he had not made any friends since they moved. That year we had received a boys bike,a bunch of puzzles and a skate board. So we thought they would be perfect gifts for Billy.(It is sad that many are prejudice against others who are different with no fault of their own,and can be cruel with words and their actions). When we met Billy he explained to Fr John he hated living there and wanted to move back to Maple Shade where he had friends.Fr John talked with Billy along time and told him eventually someone would see him as a wonderful young man and become his friend.Billy was very happy with the gifts but not so much with Fr Johns words of wisdom. All Billy wanted was for someone to talk his mom into moving back where they use to live.Several months later
we received an email from Mary saying that Billy learned to do some tricks with his skateboard and one of the boys in the trailer park asked Billy to teach him how to do them.We hope Billy has found a forever friend wherever he is.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

WE WILL NOT BE  COLLECTING ANYTHING UNTIL MARCH 2015-JUST IN TIME FOR EASTER.THIS WILL BE OUR FIRST BREAK IN  8 YRS,AND BELIEVE ME WE  ALL NEED IT

AN ELDERLY MAN

Peachess met an elderly man who lived in a very big house but he only actually stayed downstairs. One reason is he could no longer walk up the steps, the other reason was since his small disability check was for the basics he no longer could afford to heat the whole house. In fact he had no heat only a sleeping bag.Winter time was brutal for him and he had a cough that never seemed to go away.Well Peachess was very upset to learn about how this elderly man was living in the cold... inside of his house. So she put a request out for an electric heater and electric blankets and some warm clothes including gloves and a coat. And those who read her request on our blog came through. This elderly man is so much warmer than he has been in years. He wants to live in this house until he dies.He said his father hand built the house him and his wife had raised their children in the house. He had a lot of memories in this house.(But makes you wonder where are his children in his time of need?)Peachess still checks on him from time to time especially in the winter. And she has been known to drop off some soup on occasion to warm his insides. We pray every Winter that this man will be able to stay warm and will never have his electric shut off due to lack of funds. It makes you wonder how many elderly people are in cold houses.Where you can see your own breath when you talk. How many elderly are struggling to pay the high costs of an out of control economy? How many have children that are not in the picture? Our mother always said a parent can take care of 13 kids but 13 kids cant take care of 1 parent(guess there is some truth in that.
