Please Help ...

It's getting very cold in South Dakota - home of the Pine Ridge Reservation.   This is a very difficult time of year for the impoverished who live there.   Winter is barreling down on them and many folks have no heat or have only wood fires for heat.  They also need food - many skip meals or go hungry all together.  It is a sad state of affairs that these conditions exist here in our country.

Here are a few ways you can help - they have a monthly  food program that serves 1000 people/families - the cost is $65.00 - here's a link to that page:

Nativeprogress/ONESpirit Food Program  - you can make a monthly donation in any amount or buy the whole box.

They have a wood program, $100.00 buys enough wood for 3 weeks of use.  Here is there link:

They also have an Okini list - which in Lakota means "to share of material things" - this is the most eye-opening, saddest, awareness-raising document.  It is a list of families and what they need.  Many of them are quite large - and are elders raising many grandkids.  Many times these kids arrive with only the clothes on their backs.  There is one elder woman who lives "off the grid" - no central heat or electricity.  She uses wood for heat and has a kerosene lamp.  She is 77 years old.  She needs winter boots, a maul (wood-splitter) and a bow saw (for cutting trees)  - How many of you reading this can imagine your 77 year old grandmother splitting logs and having a kerosene lantern??

Here is a link to the Okini List- ANY HELP you can give is more welcome than you can ever imagine:

Thank you to all who donate!!
